Rangmalhar 2019- Pankhi the Hand fan

Every year Rangmalhar is celebrated by artists all over Rajasthan, India, to welcome the season of rain and pray to rain GOD ‘Indra’ for his grace.

In 2019 the theme of this event was celebrating the beauty of hand fans- Giving a modern twist to a very functional and a traditional commodity. Hand fans in India have been made with different materials- Fabric, Palm  Leaves, Bamboo, Metal. It conveys the traditional crafts of a particular region in a very simplified and a colorful manner.

My attempt is to convey to people to follow a sustainable lifestyle. Thus was created a hand fan 10 times the size of the actual hand fans to have a stronger impact. The materials in this fan are a metal, paper yarn, cotton  and bells. With the heIp of one of my interns we wove the paper yarn Pankhi
