Every year Rangmalhar is celebrated by artists all over Rajasthan, India, to welcome the season of rain and pray to rain GOD ‘Indra’ for his grace.
In 2018 the theme of this event was celebrating the beauty of our traditions. Before the invention of electricity one of the traditions was using a lamp ‘Lalten’ in which there was a cotton wick which could be adjusted as per the amount of brightness needed. Nowadays these laltens can be found in villages, used by them only when there is no electricity and thus these lamps are slowly disappearing from our modern world.
This Lalten is an example of Upcycled decorations. I had acquired one lamp from the scrap dealer and decorated it with hand woven paper fabric and handspun paper yarn.
